What is P.A.V.E [back to top]
The Program for Adults in Vocational Education (P.A.V.E.) is a vocational training program for adults with mental disabilities. P.A.V.E serves students with mild mental retardation, emotional disabilities and learning disabilities. The overall purpose of P.A.V.E is to provide a post-secondary vocational training program that incorporates functional academic instruction, job skills training and community-based internships.

What if I received the IEP/Special Diploma? [back to top]
If the candidate received the IEP/Special diploma upon completion of high school, successful completion of an Ability to Benefit (ATB) test will be a required condition of admission.

What is the Ability to Benefit Test? [back to top]
To be eligible for Federal Financial Aid, students applying to PAVE who have received the IEP/Special Diploma are required to take the Ability to Benefit (ATB) test.

The ATB test consists of three sections: writing skills, reading skills, and numerical skills. All three sections consist of objective multiple-choice questions.

Students required to take the ATB test may receive the following special accommodations:
• Extended timed test
• Calculators
• Braille assessment booklets
• Audio cassette recorder (reader)
• Computer Adaptations

Information, helpful tips, and practice questions can be found on the ACT ASSET ATB website at: http://www.act.org/asset/pdf/StudentGuide.pdf

Please note that students applying to PAVE will only be taking the Basic Skills part of the test which consists of the reading skills, writing skills, and numerical skills sections of the ATB. Students will NOT take the advanced mathematics portion of the test.
