
The Middle College program is a Virginia Community College System initiative designed to offer a college opportunity to individuals between 18 and 24 who have not completed high school.
This college recovery program is designed for those individuals who have had a desire to pursue college coursework, but need to attain a GED certificate first.
The Middle College offers the opportunity to:
- Obtain a GED
- Enroll at J. Sargeant Reynolds
- Earn college credit
- Explore career paths
- Earn a Career Readiness Certificate
- Access Financial Aid
- Continue college coursework
The Middle College program is offered FREE OF CHARGE to those students who qualify and are ready to make a commitment to the program and their future. This program is a one semester (approximately 4 month) program and is only offered during the college's fall and spring semesters. SPACE IS LIMITED TO 40 STUDENTS PER SEMESTER.

Virginia's community colleges partner in the public higher education
radio program, With Good Reason, produced by the Virginia Foundation for the
Humanities. Recent programs featuring community college faculty include:

Millenials; Mary Washko (J. Sargeant Reynolds Community College)
is part of an innovative program that helps high school dropouts complete their
education. She says that, like the character played by Will Smith in the hit
movie, "Pursuit of Happiness," these young people face more daily challenges
than most of us can imagine.
