Purpose: This option is designed to assist the registered nurse to enlarge and compliment basic nursing skills and knowledge with the latest scientific developments used in the care of medical-surgical patients treated in critical care facilities. Specific studies deal with advanced physiological concepts of selected body systems, pharmacology and treatment modalities, EKG interpretation, and physical assessment. This curriculum will prepare the nurse to participate in the national certification examination offered by the American Association of Critical Care Nurses.
Admission Requirements: General college curricular admission
Program Notes: In addition to the general college curricular admission requirements, those interested in entering the Critical Care Nursing Career Studies Certificate option should hold current licensure as a registered nurse in Virginia and should be employed in or preparing for employment in a critical care unit.
