Emergency Nursing

Purpose: This option is designed to assist the registered nurse to enlarge and complement basic nursing skills and knowledge with scientific knowledge and principles currently used in the care of medical-surgical patients treated in emergency rooms and acute outpatient settings. Specific studies deal with advanced physiological concepts of selected body systems, pharmacology and treatment modalities, EKG interpretation, and physical assessment. This curriculum will prepare the nurse to participate in the national certification examination offered by the Emergency Department Nurses Association.

 

Admission Requirements: General college curricular admission

 

Program Notes: In addition to the general college curricular admission requirements, those interested in entering the Emergency Nursing option should hold current licensure as a registered nurse in Virginia and should be employed in or preparing for employment in an emergency nursing setting.
