Dear International Student:
We are pleased that you wish to apply to J. Sargeant Reynolds Community College as an international student. We only admit new international students for the Fall and Spring semesters, and the deadline for submission of all documentation is several months before the beginning of the semester. Listed below are requirements for your application for this visa status.
Ø Complete the Application for Admission. Please be sure to sign the application on the bottom of page 2. F-1 applicants may be admitted to certificate or degree programs or the English as a Second Language program. Admission is particularly selective for Associate Degree college transfer degree programs. The college does not admit F-1 applicants to health technology programs that have waiting lists for clinical courses, such as nursing.
Ø Submit the original of your high school, secondary and college or university transcripts and include official translations into English if necessary. After our evaluation, we will return the transcript to you as we understand how it is to obtain.
Ø The TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) or the ESL Compass placement test is required for admission to J. Sargeant Reynolds Community College. A minimum score of 550 (paper-based) or 213 on the computer-based test and a minimum rating of “5” on the Test of Written English (TWE) is required for admission to an academic program. A minimum of 337 (paper-based) or 80 (computerized) TOEFL is required for admission to the ESL program. The iBT required score is 80 for admission to an academic program and 28 for ESL admission. A minimum score of 5 is required on the test of written English for admission to an academic program. If you use the J. Sargeant Reynolds college code 5340, the TOEFL office will send a copy of your scores directly to us. The English as a Second Language curriculum is designed for individuals with a basic knowledge of English. If you are in the
Ø Complete the Affidavit of Support to verify minimum provision of $17,375 per academic year (fall and spring semesters). Two supporting forms of evidence are required with this form. Bank statements for the past four months are required and should indicate that the first year’s tuition and books ($6,798) is available to the student. A letter from the sponsor’s employer stating the terms of employment and annual salary is the other supporting document. If the sponsor is self-employed, a letter can be provided on the company letterhead stating the sponsor’s status and salary. Please refer to the instructions for the Affidavit of Support. Financial Aid assistance is not available to F-1 students.
Ø Submit a health report or letter from a physician that includes the results from a recent physical examination. If the examination warrants a chest x-ray, a written statement of those results must be included. A sample physical form is attached.
