A single, working mother, Elisa Allen decided to pursue her dream
of becoming a nurse. Fortunately, she received scholarships
through the college that allowed her to attend school while still
providing for her family. After graduating from Reynolds,
Elisa began her new career as an R.N. in a pediatric ICU. Allen
says she may eventually pursue a master's degree, but for now,
she's enjoying helping her young patients get a strong start.
“I would like to get my associate degree in Practical Nursing.
I have very good people skills … After I get my associate degree,
I would like to move to a four-year college and make progress … so
I can grow up to become something in life.”

“I am in need of financial assistance because my mother is a
single parent and we cannot afford to pay for college, even a college
as affordable as Reynolds. … receiving financial assistance
will be greatly appreciated because without it I will not be able to
further my education.”

“My goal is to become a lawyer. I plan to do this first by attending
Reynolds for another year and getting an associate degree in liberal
arts. Then I plan to transfer to either Old Dominion University or
Virginia Commonwealth University … after graduating with a degree
in psychology I plan to attend law school. I know I have a long road
ahead of me … but I’m ready and willing to do my best
at whatever I have to do to succeed in accomplishing my goal and succeed
in life.”

“… to JSRCC I say ‘thanks for giving me the chance
to prove myself and for being the gateway to my success.’”
