Dual Enrollment
The Dual Enrollment Program is offered to all high school students enrolled in one of the local participating schools. This program allows students to take college-level courses that fulfill both high school and college graduation requirements.

As part of the Virginia Plan for Dual Enrollment and the Commonwealth College Course Collaborative Program (CCCC), the Dual Enrollment Program at J. Sargeant Reynolds Community College provides an opportunity for high school students to get a head-start on college graduation.

What others are saying about JSRCC’s dual enrollment program

College-Level Courses
Students who enroll in this program take college-level courses at their local high school/technical center or at one of our campuses with special permission from the Principal or Guidance Counselor. Upon completion of these courses, students will receive credits that count toward their high school diploma as well as earn credits toward a degree at J. Sargeant Reynolds Community College or to transfer to a 4 year institution. This program enables students to get a jump on completing their college degree by making the most of their time in high school while helping to reduce expenses related to the college experience. All college-level courses are taught by faculty who meet SACS certification or eligibility.

The who, how and what of the Dual Enrollment Program

Who can enroll?
Enrollment in this program is offered to all high school students that are enrolled in a participating area high school. Currently, J. Sargeant Reynolds Community College has agreements to offer the Dual Enrollment program with the following schools or school systems: CATEC, Chesterfield Technical Center, Cumberland County, Fluvanna County, Goochland County, Hanover County, Henrico County, Louisa County, Maggie L. Walker Governor’s School, Powhatan County, and Richmond City.

How do I enroll?

The first step in the enrollment process is to meet with the Guidance Counselor. Students will need to submit an application for admission by submitting a completed copy to your school’s Guidance Counselor or Dual Enrollment Liaison. In addition to the application for admission, students and parents must complete a Residency for Dual and Concurrent Enrollment Applicants form. This form is available here or through one of the college’s Access Centers. >> More Information

What happens next?

Once the application has been processed, students will receive a Student ID number that will allow them to register for classes and to take the placement tests. Additionally, they will receive a letter of admission. Based upon course selection, students may be required to take the COMPASS placement tests in reading, writing, and mathematics. This exam can be taken at any of the JSRCC Testing Centers and the requirement may be waived based upon previously taken tests (i.e., SAT, PSAT, etc.). Additionally, students need to review the current course catalog to verify that they meet the prerequisites for the desired course. Upon fulfilling the testing and prerequisites, students may enroll in the selected class(es) by submitting a Dual Enrollment Course Request form to their Guidance Counselor by the appropriate deadline. >> More Information on Placement Testing

How much does it cost?

There is no application fee to apply to the program. Program costs include tuition and books for each course, as well as a $6 fee for the placement tests. In most localities, fees for tuition, books, or even transportation may be paid for or supplied by the high school or county. Students are responsible for any tuition and fees that their locality does not cover. Guidance Counselors will have more information regarding the fees for each locality.

Where can I get more information?
